Pumpkin spice moscow mule is made with whiskey bourbon, ginger beer and lemon for a deliciously easy fall cocktail recipe!

Moscow mules are one of my favorite drink recipes and not just because they’re served in those cool copper mugs.

I think it’s the ginger beer.  It just really sings to me.

These moscow mules are not just your average vodka-ginger beer-lime -mule recipe.

No, no, no my friends.  Since we’re going absolutely pumpkin crazy these days, I had to do it…

Oh yeahhhh…it’s like fall in a glass with a hint of sass.

(P.S. I totally didn’t mean to rhyme there).

Two moscow mules in copper mugs on a wood slice. There's a couple of fall leaves on the wood. The mugs have a lemon wedge and cinnamon stick garnish. You can see the ice in the copper mugs.

What’s in pumpkin spice moscow mules?

  • Whiskey Bourbon
  • Pumpkin Butter (recipe here)
  • Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • Cinnamon
  • Ginger Beer

That’s right. These babies are made with my easy homemade pumpkin butter, giving them all that Fall flavor with a hint of sweetness.

Almost like a whiskey infused pumpkin pie???…oh, heck yes.

I’m a whiskey lover, so that makes me a tad biased here, but god damn these babies are goooodd.

The bourbon has a slight vanilla-caramel flavor with a delicious smokiness making it the perfect fall cocktail for sipping by the fire.

Traditionally moscow mules are made with vodka, ginger beer and lime, but we’re using whiskey with a hint of pumpkin butter and fresh lemon juice to really make it pop.

Fun fact: A moscow mule using whiskey instead of vodka is known as a kentucky moscow mule.

Two copper mugs on a wood slice with ice in them and a lemon wedge and cinnamon stick. They're made with pumpkin butter you can see the mason jar in the background. You can see the bark on the wood slice with a red fall leaf.

Does a moscow mule have to be served in a copper cup?

Of course not.

The reason for using the copper mugs in a moscow mule is mainly for keeping the drink ice cold.

Even though the mugs are super cute, you do not need them in order to make a moscow mule. Simply serve in a glass over ice.

But, if you want to invest in some quality moscow mule mugs, here’s a set of four for under $8/mug :).

For some more Fall cocktails with bourbon try:

  • Gingered Bourbon Apple Cider Cocktail
  • Cinnamon Maple Whiskey Sour
  • Apple Cider Irish Mule
